Playhouse delivers educational, inspirational, extremely entertaining theatre to over 750 schools across New Zealand and Australia. Each year we write the plays, prepare the actors, make the costumes and set and tour our troupe around the country so that you can have fantastic theatre in your own environment. As well as the performances, we also provide a teaching resource so that schools can easily incorporate the play into their lessons.
Our ‘raison détre’
Our formula is to bring the best actors and creative forces in Australia and New Zealand together to create a play that is funny, educational and inspiring – and many schools have told us our shows are the best theatre experience their students have had. To do this we rely on your support. So if you haven’t had us visit yet – why not drop us a line?

Founded in Christchurch New Zealand, NZ Playhouse began touring New Zealand in 2009, then expanded into Australia in 2012. With more and more Aussies getting involved in the shows, in 2016 we split into New Zealand Playhouse and Australia Playhouse.
In 2015, Playhouse split into two sister companies which perform to their respective countries each year. Both countries get the same great shows, written by the same inspired writers and put together by the same great teams of people from both sides of the ditch.
Contact, show information, booking, invoicing and price excellent. Wonderful literacy links with our curriculum. Kids loved the costumes and the performance. Staff enjoyed the show, particularly how the content could entertain adults as well as students from Prep-Year 6. Our Yr 5/6 teacher commented on the content that related to bullying, cyber bullying, friendship and core values we are trying to teach students. In the past we have had shows to deal explicitly with this but thought The Big Sad Wolf did a better job and was much more entertaining.
- Allansford and District Primary School, Allansford, Victoria
Shakespeare as you write it was a brilliantly created play. The teaching points of iambic pentameter for example, were cleverly acted out. The play was extremely funny and the audience participation was enjoyed by all. A very informative and very funny play.
